For the past nine years, Monica Perez has been a cornerstone of Gasaway Gasaway Bankston, where she leads as the Director of Architectural Production. With a Bachelor of Architecture from Louisiana State University (2015), Monica blends her love of art and math into a career that balances precision with creativity.
Her approach to design centers on meeting clients’ needs, respecting the existing architectural fabric, and still pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. She thrives on coordination and detail, knowing what needs to be done, and who to collaborate with to make it happen. Monica is especially proud of her work on the Zemurray Park Pool, a community project that achieved creative design solutions on a modest budget, and one of her most challenging projects yet, the SLU Athletic Facility, a high-profile new build and complex renovation that demands careful planning and thoughtful phasing.
Monica is a member of AIA, NCARB, and A4LE and also serves on the Planning & Zoning Commission for the City of Hammond. She is further involved in professional and community organizations including the Hammond Downtown Development District Design Committee, SLU FeLions, Tangipahoa Parish Professional Women’s Organization, Hammond Chamber of Commerce, and the SLU Alumni Association.
Outside of work, Monica brings her creativity into everyday life. She loves reading, diving into craft kits, and spending time with her son, Theo. Her family, husband Robert, son Theo, and two cats, Bagheera and Nimbus, keep life full and lively. Inspired by her mom, who always encouraged her to believe in herself, Monica approaches challenges with confidence and a sense of humor (her unofficial motto: “womp womp”—because little mistakes aren’t worth sweating).
A fun fact? Before joining GGB, Monica spent weekends working in cemeteries restoring tombs, where she honed hands-on skills in limewash, plaster, and brickwork. On her bucket list: a trip to Greece to finally see the ancient architecture she’s admired for years.
