Gage Smith

Intern Architect

Architecture in 2017. That one experience set him on the path to earning his Bachelor of Architecture at Louisiana State University, interning with GGB during summer breaks, and jumping right into a full-time role after graduation.

Gage’s design style is all about experimenting: make something, figure out what works (and what doesn’t), then tweak it until it becomes something visually and spatially exciting. That process has pushed him through some tough challenges, like designing a bike-focused hotel in school, but also led to big wins, like his Rock Climbing Center in Bedford, VA, which was chosen for an AIA showcase in New Orleans.

Outside the office, Gage is all about creativity and play. He sketches daily, digs into anime, comics, films, and video games for inspiration, and can often be found spiking a volleyball at the beach, sketching in a coffee shop, traveling, or getting competitive over a chessboard. His family, parents Amy and Guy, brother Ty, and his uncle Keaton, are his biggest supporters and creative influences, while architect Peter Eisenman’s advice on patience reminds him it’s all a journey.

Fun fact: Gage once studied abroad in Paris for four months. And one day? He’s dreaming of a vacation home in Japan.
