The First Friday meeting allows the elected St Tammany Parish officials to update and discuss items important to the residents. The keynote speaker for the May meeting was Mayor Mike Cooper, who discussed his achievements while in office as Mayor of Covington and his future Parish President race. The St Tammany Parish Assessor, Louis Fitzmorris, and the 22nd Judicial District Attorney, Warren Montgomery, provided updates to issues in their offices, and then District 4 St. Tammany Parish School Board member, Jack Loup, provided information on the upcoming election and the bond renewals. The St Tammany Parish President, Pat Brister, discussed a few projects currently in St Tammany Parish and then mentioned the upcoming Safe Haven Foundation and Family Promise fundraiser on May 11, 2019 called Northshore Picnic with a Purpose. This family-friendly, ticketed event will be held at Fontainebleau State Park and all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. Proceeds from the event will benefit the construction of the Family Promise Day Center on the Safe Haven Campus.
Other attendees included, but were not limited to, the St Tammany Parish Clerk of Court, Melissa Henry, First Circuit Court of Appeal Judge, William Crain, the Director of St Tammany Parish Homeland Security, Dexter Accardo, and Nick Tranchina, who is running for St Tammany Parish Sheriff.
